| Mohammad Nagib He was born in
Sudan in 1901, and served in the Egyptian army advancing through different ranks until was
promoted to Major General. At that time he became in charge of the Egyptian armys
leadership during the 23rd of July revolution in 1952.
Upon the declaration of Egypt as a Republic in June 1953, Naguib was named its first
President. However, he was dismissed in November 1954, and was put under house detention
for some time. The bond was lifted and he was set free until he died in Cairo in 1984. |
