President Mubarak received Jordanian King Abdullah II during a short visit to Egypt. Mubarak and Abdullah investigated over two talk sessions the available possibilities to mobilize international efforts in order to halt Israeli aggression against Palestinians.

President Mubarak received Egyptian ambassador to Israel Mr. Mohamed Bassiouni,
who submitted to Mubarak a full report on the current status in the Palestinian occupied territories including the on- going escalation of aggression against civilians. Mr. Bassiouni was recalled to Cairo earlier last week in response to the Israeli practices against Palestinians.

President Mubarak and Lebanese PM Mr. Rafiq El – Hariri held bilateral talks at the Presidential headquarters. The two leaders looked at ways to enhance bilateral relations in general and in the economic fields in particular. Middle East developments in the light of the Israeli aggression on the Palestinian people were included in the agenda.

President Mubarak received Palestinian President Yasser Arafat who came on a short visit to Egypt to brief Mubarak on the results of the talks held with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Arafat also conveyed to Mubarak Russian ideas about means to cease the Israeli violence against the unarmed Palestinian people and resumption of the peace process.

While from the Palestinian side, Dr. Nabil Sha`ath Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Mr. Zohdy Alqodra Palestinian Ambassador to Egypt, Arafat Consultants Nabil Abou Redina and Mohamed Rasheed joined the meeting.

President Mubarak received US Secretary of Defense Mr. William Cohen who is taking a nine-country tour in the Middle East. President Mubarak decorated Mr. Cohen with the Medal of the Republic of First Order.

President Mubarak received Israeli former President Ezer Weizman at the Egyptian resort of Sharm El- Sheikh. Both leaders held talks exploring ways that would stop bloodshed and put an end to the violence sweeping the Palestinian occupied territories.

President Mubarak inaugurated the new building of the Tahreer institution including a modern print house. During the ceremony Mubarak stated that the current parliamentary election, despite some negative points, is considered a landmark in the Egyptian political life. Furthermore, Mubarak urged all the political parties to constitute work groups aiming to explore and establish new rules for political practices in the future.
