In the framework of President Mubarak’s coordination among Arab countries to reach a unified position for halting the Israeli aggression, he arrived at Abu Dhabi on a two - day visit. Mubarak and Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahayan President of the United Arab Emirates reviewed issues of mutual interests and the current situation in the Palestinian territories.

President Mubarak and King Fahad Bin Abdul Aziz of Saudi Arabia held a summit meeting in Jeddah to discuss ways of strengthening Arab solidarity during the current crucial time as well as providing protection for the Palestinians.

President Mubarak received the Chief of Lawyers’ Syndicate Mr. Sameh Ashour who is also Head of Arab Lawyers Union. Mr. Sameh stated that Mubarak sanctioned the lawyers’ request for the amendment of the legal profession law.

President Mubarak received Ruler of Sharqa and member of The Supreme Council of Emirates Federation Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohamed Al – Qasemy who arrived to Cairo on a three-day visit. Dr. Sultan, a graduate of the Faculty of Agriculture, will inaugurate the Faculty’s library and information center established through a grant from him.

President Mubarak together with the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat discussed the outcome of international contacts concerning the implementation of both the Mitchell report and the Egyptian – Jordanian initiative.

President Mubarak addressed 22 heads of State, Vice Presidents, Prime Ministers and heads of delegations attending the sixth Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) summit held in Cairo. In his speech, Mubarak stated that stimulation of the Free Trade Area, which is mandatory to cope with the international changes, would serve the interests of all member states.

President Hosni Mubarak received US Ambassador to Egypt Daniel Kurtzer. Emerging from the meeting Kurtzer said president Mubarak asked him to convey to Washington his deep concern over the serious situation in the region and his hope that the United States would play an active role to end the violence.

President Hosni Mubarak reviewed the developments of the deteriorating situation in the Middle East during his meeting with EU High Comissioner for foreign and security affairs Javier Solana.The EU official, following the meeting, said the situation is remarkably aggravating, pointing out that the EU wants to exert utmost efforts to tone down violence in the region and give peace a chance.

In recognition to his remarkable efforts in serving national and Arab causes, President Mubarak decorated Dr. Essmat Abdel Meguid, former Secretary General of the Arab League with the Nile Sash award during a formal celebration in the Heliopolis presidential headquarters.

During a formal celebration, President Mubarak decorated Mr. Amr Moussa former Foreign Minister who currently assumed the position of the Arab League Secretary General with the Nile Sash award in acknowledgment to his outstanding efforts on both the national and Arab levels.

President Mubarak held talks in Sharm El – Sheikh with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat focusing on the basic elements of the report of the fact-finding committee. The report presented reasons behind the eruption of violence in the occupied territories.
