June 29 th , 2000

President Mubarak meets with Prince Abd Allah Bin Abdel Aziz, the Heir of the Saudi Arabian Kingdom in Sharm El-Sheikh in an extended session to address the development of the Arab issues such as the peace process throughout the negotiations with the Israeli side as well as other regional issues. Finally, the Egyptian-Saudi talks moved on to a discussion over the methods of enhancing the cooperation between the two countries.


June 26 th , 2000

President Mubarak visits the Republican Guard Forces where he joins the annual celebrations of the Republican Guard Forces Day. The President attended a show for military music and then opened the new establishments and listened to a thorough introduction of the latest developments regarding these establishments. Finally, Mubarak accepts a gift from the Republican Guard Forces.


June 25 th , 2000

President Mubarak summoned a meeting with the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat at the President’s office to discuss the latest developments in the peace process with respect to the results of the American Spokesman, Denis Rousse’s visit. Furthermore, the developments in the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations were also discussed.

President Mubarak summoned a meeting at the president’s office with the Israeli President Ezzra Wiseman. Following that, both Presidents attended a press conference where President Mubarak welcomed President Wiseman and spoke of President Wiseman’s past efforts in the peace process during 1977 between Presidents Sadat and Bejin. President Mubarak also saluted President Wiseman for his current efforts during his presidential term.

President Mubarak welcomes Mr. Yousi Belin, the Israeli Minister of Justice. Dr. Ossama El-Baz, the president’s Political consultant was also there to welcome Mr. Belin.


June 24 th , 2000

President Mubarak received a report from the Chinese Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Mr. Shi Juang Shing as well as the Egyptian Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade Mr. Youssef Botros Ghali on the results of the fourth round of the Egyptian-Chinese Economic and Social Committee. President Mubarak emphasized during his talks with the Chinese Minister, the importance of expanding trade between the two countries, and especially increasing the Egyptian exports to China in order to repair the current defects in the balance of trade between the two countries.

President Mubarak summons a meeting to follow up on the economic situation of the country. The meeting discusses the opportunities for cooperation with the outside world as well as the resolutions of the Tenth Summit of the Group of Fifteen.

President Mubarak summons a second meeting to discuss the development of Fatimide Cairo. The President followed up on the procedures that are being taken for the Azhar Tunnel which will be complete by the end of year 2000

President Mubarak meets with the Vice-President of India, Mr. Krishan. Mr. Amr Moussa was also there to attend the meeting which took place after the workshops of the summit.

President Mubarak meets with the President of Zimbabwe, Mr. Robert Mojabi along with the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Joshi.

Before the starting of the summit’s closing session, President Mubarak summons a meeting with the Indonesian President Abdel Rahman Wahed and the Indonesian First lady at the presidential office and which was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Amr Mousa as well as the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Olwi Shehab.

During the international press conference which took place after the closing session of the summit, President Mubarak announced that the closing speech which he gave emphasized the importance of the role which the private sector plays in the development process and the role of the governments in accommodating the small and medium enterprises. He also mentioned that the multinational companies negatively affect the comparative advantage of the local projects within the developing countries as well as the employment rate. President Mubarak also added that priorities will be given to the projects allowing employment opportunities.

President Mubarak discusses with the first secretary of the UN, Kofi Annan the situation in South Lebanon following the Israeli withdrawal as well as the peace process in the Middle East in addition to the Ethiopian- Eritrean crisis and to other issues related to the UN.

President Mubarak invites the Presidents of the Group of Fifteen along with the participating groups to the open the exhibit at the exhibition Hall in Nasr City which displays the products of the 15 countries that are available in the international markets. Accompanied President Mubarak during the opening was the Vice President of Chile, Vice President of Peru, President of Zimbabwe and the first lady, President of Argentine and the first lady, Vice President of India and the second lady, Vice President of Brazil and the Prime Minister of Malazia.

President Mubarak opens The Tenth Summit of the Group of Fifteen which is hosted by Egypt. The president gave out a speech in the opening session where he confirmed the importance of international trade and cooperation and of a dialogue between the countries of the Group of Fifteen as well as other economic blocs throughout the world especially with the major industrial countries in order to achieve an international economic system that is more democratic and just.

President Mubarak met with President Arafat and following that was an open session where the results of the meeting between President Arafat and President Clinton which took place in Washington last Thursday, in an attempt to rescue the Palestinian path and to display President Arafat’s vision of the current American position regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict during the short period left in President Clinton’s term of presidency. Arafat described the talks as being very frank and that the Palestinian position regarding the American administration and the peace process were announced.

During a celebration of the prophet’s birthday, President Mubarak emphasized the importance of taking the prophet as our raw-model, peace be upon him, with respect to his manners and his guidelines in dealing with people. Moreover, following the vision which he left behind for us to apply as a means of reaching a strong and fixed base for the unification of the human race as well as well as avoiding the theories and practices that segregate people and sabotages their unity. The President also emphasized the weight which The Prophet gave to science and scientists and as well as the importance of applying logic and reason to our arguments.

President Mubarak was the first among both Arab and foreign leaders to pay condolences to the new Syrian leadership.

President Mubarak convened with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat who arrived to Cairo before heading to Syria to participate in the funeral of late Syrian President Hafez Al-Assad.

President Mubarak held a meeting with the state top senior officials including the Prime Minister, People’s Assembly and Shura Council speakers and a number of ministers. In a statement to the press after the meeting, Mubarak expressed hope for stability to prevail in Syria. He also confirmed Egyptian full support for the new Syrian leadership.

President Mubarak received a message from Bulgarian President Peter Stoyanov inviting Mubarak for a visit to Bulgaria and calling to boost bilateral cooperation. Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mrs. Nadezhda Mihailova carried the message.

President Mubarak and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat held talks in order to review the current status of the Palestinian – Israeli negotiations and the upcoming summit to be held in Washington between Arafat and US President Clinton.

President Mubarak met with UAE president Sheik Zayed Ben Sultan Al-Nuhayyan in Geneva so as to inquire after his health. Both leaders tackled during their meeting the ME issue in general with emphasis on the Lebanese position and the Israeli- Syrian track.

President Mubarak held an important session with US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, which focused on US endeavors geared to achieve a progress on the Palestinian track, accelerate the Syrian track and the status of the Lebanese track.

President Mubarak received Lord Michel Levy member of the British House of Lords and the PM envoy. Levy extended to Mubarak British PM Tony Blair invitation to visit the United Kingdom. He described the meeting with Mubarak, which covered commercial and investment bilateral relations and other regional issues, as fruitful.

President Mubarak received Gameel Ibrahim Al- Hagilan, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

President Mubarak conferred with foreign ministers of the Damascus Declaration member states. In their meeting with the President, they discussed the ME peace process, the Iraqi situation, and economic cooperation among the 8 members.

President Mubarak met with Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk Al- Shara`a, who was carrying a message from Syrian President Hafez Al – Asad. Mubarak discussed with Al-Sahra`a the recent developments in south Lebanon and other Arab issues.

President Mubarak received Mr. Stephen Joel Trachtenberg head of George Washington University. Mubarak and Trachtenberg, during their meeting, investigated Egypt’s pivotal role for the economic development of the Middle East and joint educational projects between George Washington University and Egyptian universities.

President Mubarak convened with German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer over the ME peace process and bilateral relations. Both dignitaries looked into Commercial relations between Egypt and the European Union as well.

President Mubarak held significant talks with the 9- member US Congress delegation headed by Mr. Tom Bliley, Chairman of the US House of Representatives Trade Committee. Mr. Thomas promised to take necessary steps towards the conclusion of a free trade agreement between Egypt and the USA.

President Mubarak sat for an interview with the Austrian TV, which will be also broadcasted in a number of international television networks.
