Mubarak held a session of talks with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat in the Egyptian
resort of Sharm El- Sheikh during Arafats return trip from Davos World Economic
Forum. Arafat briefed President Mubarak on the latest development on the Palestinian track
in the light of his meetings on the sidelines of the Forum.

developments in the occupied Palestinian territories. Both sides discussed the issues
tabled on the agenda of Taba negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli
Negotiators.The two leaders renewed their support for the Palestinian stance on reaching a
just and comprehensive peace that would guarantee the legitimate Palestinian rights,
including setting up an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

Mubarak delivered a speech on the occasion of Police Day. He highlighted how a few gallant
lightly armed policemen faced heavily armed British occupation forces in a bloody
confrontation on that same
day forty-nine years ago.
The President also hailed the role of the police in maintaining peace and security all
over the country. He also appreciated their role in law enforcement and crime-combat.

be the focus to discuss the modernization of Egyptian society as we enter the new century.

Mubarak held a meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben Ami which dealt with the
primary principles proposed by the US aiming at the achievement of a peace agreement
between the Palestinian and Israeli sides. Egyptian Foreign Minister Mr. Amr Moussa, who
attended the meeting along with the Israeli Ambassador to Egypt, clarified that the
Palestinian requirements are focused on receiving clarifications on certain points from
the US. He also added that Egypt shares the same position with the Palestinian side.

Youth(NMHPY) .
President Mubarak asked to give priority to Sohag youth housing project and to start

land route linking Sohag with the Red Sea in order to find new scopes of development in
the governorate .

his visits to the US .Washington speaks appreciatively of Mubarak's ongoing efforts to
achieve peace in the region," he added. During the meeting, Mubarak stressed
the need that US President Clinton exerts efforts to bring closer views
of Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli Premier Ehud Barak and have them meet
in Washington as soon as possible before January 20.

Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat termed his meeting with Egyptian President Hosni
Mubarak in Cairo as important, constructive and positive.Speaking to reporters after he
returned back home from Egypt, Arafat said his talks took up everything, including the
ongoing attacks against the palestinians and the US attempts to make peace.The Palestinian
Leader referred to outgoing US President Bill Clinton's letter on his Palestinian-Israeli
peace plan and the two letters Arafat sent to Clinton as regards Palestinian
reservations.
