President Mubarak held a session of talks with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El- Sheikh during Arafat’s return trip from Davos World Economic Forum. Arafat briefed President Mubarak on the latest development on the Palestinian track in the light of his meetings on the sidelines of the Forum.

This came in Mubarak`s interview with channel II of the Israeli TV.

Mubarak, Fahd discuss situation in Palestinian territories Mubarak in Riyadh covered the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories. Both sides discussed the issues tabled on the agenda of Taba negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli Negotiators.The two leaders renewed their support for the Palestinian stance on reaching a just and comprehensive peace that would guarantee the legitimate Palestinian rights, including setting up an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

President Mubarak delivered a speech on the occasion of Police Day. He highlighted how a few gallant lightly armed policemen faced heavily armed British occupation forces in a bloody confrontation on that same
day forty-nine years ago.
The President also hailed the role of the police in maintaining peace and security all over the country. He also appreciated their role in law enforcement and crime-combat.

President Hosni Mubarak expressed happiness and satisfaction at attending the annual meeting with thinkers and writers at the book fair every year.He said that the book fair has become a point of attraction and a wide forum to present views and ideas and to discuss the issues of society.Culture is of concern to politics, economy and sociology and all issues of society in all forms and shades, " he said.President Mubarak said that this year will be the focus to discuss the modernization of Egyptian society as we enter the new century.

In the framework of the Egyptian on going efforts to push forward the peace process, President Mubarak and Palestinian President Yasser Arafat held a bilateral session of talks.


Jan 17th , 2001

President Mubarak held a meeting with Israeli Foreign Minister Shlomo Ben Ami which dealt with the primary principles proposed by the US aiming at the achievement of a peace agreement between the Palestinian and Israeli sides. Egyptian Foreign Minister Mr. Amr Moussa, who attended the meeting along with the Israeli Ambassador to Egypt, clarified that the Palestinian requirements are focused on receiving clarifications on certain points from the US. He also added that Egypt shares the same position with the Palestinian side.

President Mubarak received the Kuwaiti Parliament Speaker and the accompanying delegation at Heliopolis Presidential Headquarters. Egyptian Peoples Council Speaker Dr. Fathy Sorour, Head of the Committee of Arab Affairs Mr. Ahmed Abou Zeid as well as the Kuwaiti Ambassador to Egypt Mr. Soliman Alqana`ay attended the meeting.

President Mubarak received Mr. Taha Yassin Ramadan the Iraqi Vice President and member of the Revolution Command Council who stated following the meeting that the issue of Arab reconciliation was included in their agenda.

President Mubarak met during his visit to Damascus with Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad. The two leaders gave a joint News Conference. “President Mubarak’s visit falls within the context of joint Arab action. “President Mubarak’s visit to Damascus interprets his interest in activating and maintaining joint Arab action at the highest level out of Egypt’s important national role on the Arab arena.

President Hosni Mubarak lauded the high standard, the decorative works and the finishing of the housing units during his inspection of the National Mubarak Housing Project for Youth(NMHPY) .
President Mubarak asked to give priority to Sohag youth housing project and to start implementing the New Sohag city.The President also gave directives to begin building the land route linking Sohag with the Red Sea in order to find new scopes of development in the governorate .

President Mubarak visited the 6th of October City where he toured Sheikh Zayed residential city and Media Production City. He was also posted on the development of the Mubarak complex, which includes studios, a hotel and open areas.

President Mubarak held an important meeting with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat who presented the outcome of his Washington talks with US President Clinton.

President Mubarak received US Senators Arlen Spector and Groage Voinovich and their wives. Their accompanying delegation. As well as US Ambassador in Cairo Daniel Kurtzer also attended the meeting.
Senator Spector of Pennsylvania, said he had met with the President several times during his visits to the US .Washington speaks appreciatively of Mubarak's ongoing efforts to achieve peace in the region," he added. “During the meeting, Mubarak stressed the need that US President Clinton exerts efforts to bring closer views of Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat and Israeli Premier Ehud Barak and have them meet in Washington as soon as possible before January 20.

  Palestinian Leader Yasser Arafat termed his meeting with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak in Cairo as important, constructive and positive.Speaking to reporters after he returned back home from Egypt, Arafat said his talks took up everything, including the ongoing attacks against the palestinians and the US attempts to make peace.The Palestinian Leader referred to outgoing US President Bill Clinton's letter on his Palestinian-Israeli peace plan and the two letters Arafat sent to Clinton as regards Palestinian reservations.
