President Mubarak, in his address to the nation celebrating Labor Day, disclosed the intensive efforts taking place with Jordan, the Palestinian Authority, USA and Israel to set a date for Israel to take the necessary steps towards easing the suffering of the Palestinians.

President Mubarak received the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Shimon Peres who carried a message from PM Mr. Ariel Sharon. Mubarak stated that Sharon’s message referred to a cease fire agreement between the Palestinians and Israelis.

President Mubarak, in his last stop of the European tour, held significant talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin which resulted into signing the Moscow declaration establishing cooperation principles among both countries.

President Mubarak and his Romanian counterpart President Ion Iliescu held intensified talks, which revolved around bilateral relations and ways to achieve comprehensive and just peace in the Middle East.

President Mubarak arrived to Germany in his first stop of a tour including a number of European countries. Mubarak and German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder held talks, which primarily focused on the Middle Eastern problem. Chancellor Schroeder affirmed the EU countries major concern to put an end to the violence sweeping the region hoping to resume peace negotiations.

President Mubarak, in commemoration of the Sinai Liberation Day furnished flower diadems to both the Unknown Soldier and late President Anwar Sadat’s Memorials in Nasr City of Cairo.

In an effort to respond to the deteriorating situation in the Middle East, President Mubarak affirmed after he convened with Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, that the Israeli escalation does not give any hope for a stable region or the establishment of peace.

President Mubarak and Libyan Leader Mo`amer Gaddafi held a summit in Tripoli tackling the staled peace process, the deteriorating situation in the occupied territories as well as following up on the implementation of the recent Amman Arab summit decisions. Both leaders studied as well the bilateral relations and means to accelerate the execution of joint agreements.

President Mubarak has expressed his pleasure with the achievements made at East Oweinat region and the increase of areas reclaimed.The President voiced his belief that the US Administration understood the Egyptian viewpoint as regards the situation in the Middle East.Mubarak told reporters that Egypt has been adopting a clear-cut stance regarding regional developments.

President Hosni Mubarak received at the Presidenctial Palace President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) and his accompanying delegation. Minister of Planning and State for International Cooperation Ahmad Darsh attended the meeting. It would be the first time the Bank's Board holds a meeting outside the EU countries.The delegation will also tour several investment and industrial projects in Cairo and Alexandria and a number of new industrial cities.

At an expanded meeting at the Presidential Palace attended by Prime Minister Dr. Atef Ebeid and a largenumber of ministers, President Mubarak reviewed the main aspects of the draft state budget for the year 2001-2002.
The President gave directives to the government tomaintain living standards for state employees, to adopt feasible employment programmes and to commit to boosting exports.

President Hosni Mubarak held a tête-à-tête talks with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.The two leaders, then, held a plenary session that was attended by Amr Moussa, Osama Al-Baz, Saeb Erekat,Nabil Abu Rdeineh and Zohdi Al-Qadra.The two leaders discussed the outcome of Mubarak's talks with the Bush administration and Israel's expansion of settlement activities.

President Mubarak held a meeting with President of the World Bank Mr. James Wolfenson who asserted the Bank’s readiness for working with Egypt in all areas specially the Egyptian programs geared towards increasing the development rate and standard of living.

President Mubarak held his first summit with American President George W. Bush in Washington dealing with a number of major issues toped with bilateral cooperation. Regional issues and especially the ME peace process gained a special attention during the talks in addition to the current situation in Iraq, Sudan and Libya.
